101/280 is a hand cut paper installation of fences. The fence pattern that I used to construct this piece is based on the "homeless wall" built by Caltrans in 2017. The tile references the 101 freeway and Interstate 280 in San Jose, CA where the 8 ft high steel fence was erected to prevent a homeless community from returning to an encampment that was disturbing a residential neighborhood. This piece reflects upon the complexities of issues that exist between public and private spaces.
