Catherine is a site specific installation originally made for the Brandstader Gallery in Riverside, CA. It consists of multiple front gate replicas from the Catherine Palace, a summer residence of the Russian tsars in st. Petersburg, Russia. I chose this particular palace gate because of its rich decadence, grandeur and gilded ironwork. It is painted a metallic blue to represent power and privilege while also referencing the palace’s blue and white exterior.
